Stuart Calvert to lead Capital Delivery Centre of Excellence


As Network Rail continues to improve the delivery of major projects and investment on the railway, it has asked Stuart Calvert to take the lead of its new Capital Delivery Centre of Excellence

Stuart, who headed up the Digital Railway programme before taking on the role of capital delivery director for the Wales and Western region, has plenty of experience to build on.

He started his railway career at Railtrack before moving to Bombardier Transportation as a director and then Jacobs where he was vice president of engineering. He then ran MGB Engineering for eight years before joining Network Rail. His is also a director of the National Skills Academy for Rail (NSAR).

Network Rail has established its Centre of Excellence as part of its Putting Passengers First (PPF) programme, to focus on the planning and delivery of projects, providing confidence that benefits will be delivered for passengers and freight users.

Mark Langman, Network Rail’s regional managing director for Wales and Western, welcomed the appointment: “I am delighted for Stuart and It’s great news for us that he has been asked to lead this team and help shape it so that it delivers the right things to support our investment programme.”

Stuart Calvert is also pleased by the move: “I am really looking forward to the challenge of leading on the Delivery Centre of Excellence as we continue to try and improve the way we work for passengers.”

He took up the post on 10 August 2020 and will add his new responsibilities to his existing ones as capital delivery director for the Wales and Western region.
