LNER adds Yorkshire Rose face covering to its collection

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) has released a fourth design in its series of regionally inspired face masks – a striking blue and white Yorkshire Rose pattern.

The train operator has already released three regional designs – featuring Edinburgh, Newcastle upon Tyne and London. This latest creation fills in the gap, honouring “God’s Own County” as it celebrates Yorkshire Day 2020 (1 August).

The Yorkshire Rose design features a hand-illustration of the white rose emblem, which has been recognised as a symbol for the region since the 14th century. The masks have been hand-sewn in Harrogate and are distributed from Yorkshire as LNER strives to support communities and businesses on the East Coast.

Hand-sewn in Harrogate, Yorkshire, proceeds from sale of the masks goes to charity CALM.

Face coverings are now mandatory on trains in England and Scotland, the two countries on the LNER route, so LNER has made this series of reusable face masks for passengers to purchase and use when travelling on its services. Proceeds from the sale of the masks go to the official LNER charity partner, Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM).

Kate McFerran, LNER.

LNER communications director Kate McFerran commented: “We know how passionate our customers and colleagues are about the great towns and cities of the LNER route.

“Following the launch of the first three designs, we were inundated with feedback from people keen to see their region represented in the collection. Yorkshire was a popular theme and we are excited to see how our Yorkshire communities respond to the latest design.”
