Liz Collins, who is currently interim managing director of TransPennine Express (TPE), will be taking up a new part-time position in West Coast Partnership as finance and commercial director from June.

West Coast Partnership, a collaboration between FirstGroup and Trenitalia, runs the Avanti West Coast intercity franchise on the West Coast main line and will deliver high speed services on High Speed 2.

Liz has had a long and successful career with First Rail. She joined the rail industry 24 years ago at First North Western and subsequently moved to First TransPennine Express in 2004 to establish the finance function in the then newly created franchise. Since then, she was finance director for both TransPennine Express franchises before stepping up to act as interim managing director last year.

Steve Montgomery, First Group.

Steve Montgomery, First Rail’s managing director, said: “I’d like to thank Liz for her significant contribution to TPE over time. As interim managing director, she has successfully managed the business through the immense challenges posed by coronavirus.

“Under her leadership, TPE has continued to provide high quality services throughout the pandemic that are essential to communities across the North and Scotland, thereby earning the trust and confidence of customers and stakeholders.

“Liz leaves TPE in a strong position as discussions continue with the DfT in respect of a new directly awarded National Rail Contract.”

TPE will make an announcement regarding a successor in due course.
