Another level crossing horror video

Network Rail has released another of its CCTV ‘horror’ videos of people misusing level crossings, as it attempts to increase awareness of the risks.

A near miss at Shornemead level crossing in 2019.

In 2019-20, rail regulator the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) reported 316 near misses on level crossings with pedestrians – the highest figure since 2011-12. There were two pedestrian fatalities.

There were a further 75 near misses with road vehicles, with no fatalities, and 17 trespassers were killed on the railway other than at level crossings.

In the latest video, released on Twitter of an incident at Shornemead in Kent, a cyclist narrowly escapes being hit by a Southeastern high-speed Javelin train.

This is the same crossing where a group of dirt bikers cut the padlock off the gates to be able to cross the line illegally in 2020.
