Stuart Meek has been chosen to become South Western Railway’s next chief operating officer — undertaking Mike Houghton’s duties after he retired earlier this year.

Stuart has been the operations director at Go-Ahead group for the past three years.

He spent nearly five years at London Underground between 2009 and 2014, starting as a graduate trainee and undertaking duties as a train driver, duty manager, driver depot manager, operations manager to the COO and adviser to the London Plan.

From there, whilst still at London Underground, he was the Olympic operations planning manager until 2012, when he became network control manager and then network control and resilience manager.

He then went on to become the head of current operations at Southern Railway, train services director/general manager at Govia Thameslink Railway and then a director at Go-Ahead group.

He starts in his new role in August.

He said: “I feel privileged to be joining the great team at South Western Railway to serve its customers and communities and I am really looking forward to meeting my new colleagues across the network. I am joining at an exciting time as we work to introduce the Arterio fleet and continue to transform our customers’ journeys.” Claire Mann, SWR’s Managing Director added: “I know Stuart will be a great addition to the leadership of our business and am very much looking forward to him joining the team.”
