An amazing week, but we must nurture the future

Needless to say the last week has been incredible.

More than one million have ridden the new Elizabeth line since it launched to excitement and fanfare.

We have a look back on the long route that led us to Crossrail, a look at the big opening day and also a look into the future and the exciting things this project could herald.

The Elizabeth line is an amazing feat of engineering, and I’m sure it will serve the people of London incredibly well.

But there was something else of major importance that happened this week. RMT members have agreed that action can be taken — from as early as June — following a ballot.

There are many, many brilliant people on both sides of this issue, and I can only hope that they can — in their urgent talks — align in a way that instils confidence for everyone involved and ensures rail’s continued recovery following the drop in passenger numbers caused by COVID-19.
