Work has now been finished on improvements to the Trent Valley line between Rugby and Stafford, Network Rail has announced.
Over four weekends more than a mile of new track has been laid. The work is part of a £2.6 million investment by Network Rail.
Five hundred workers delivered the project over a total of 240 hours.
It is hoped the new track will make for smoother, faster, and more reliable journeys.
Network Rail’s West Coast South route director, James Dean, said: “I’d like to thank passengers for bearing with us over the last month while we carried out this essential work to improve the Trent Valley line for the future.
“The section of track between Rugby and Stafford is one of the busiest sections of mixed use passenger and freight railway line in Europe, so making sure it takes people and goods to where they need to be safely, quickly and reliably is our top priority as we build back better from the coronavirus pandemic.”
