Richard Parry-Jones: 1951-2021

Richard Parry-Jones, former chairman of Network Rail, has died following an accident at his farm in Wales.

He was Network Rail’s chairman from 2012 until 2015.  In this time, he was very approachable and was always keen to promote new technology – a conversation on the use of exoskeletons to move heavy railway sleepers comes to mind.

His interest in technology stemmed partly from his time at Ford Motor Company, where he was variously Group Vice-President of Global Product Development, Chief Technical Officer, and Head of Global R&D Operations.

More recently, Richard worked with the Welsh Government in 2019, heading up the Ford Bridgend Taskforce, which assisted the workforce of Ford’s engine factory and the local community following the company’s decision to close its Bridgend plant.

Rail Insider send its thoughts and best wishes to his family and friends.
