GB Railfreight (GBRf) will partner with rolling stock company Porterbrook for the supply of 100 intermodal twin freight wagons to be built by Greenbrier, which has production sites in Poland and Romania.
The manufacturing schedule is for ten wagons per month, starting in August 2022 and completing by summer 2023.
The contract will initially be a ten-year dry lease and marks Porterbrook’s re-entry into the freight market for the first time since 2007, when it financed five Class 66 freight locomotives – also for GBRf.
Previous to that, Porterbrook had also financed other freight locos and about 2,500 wagons, of which around 600 were for transporting coal.
