East Suffolk line to close for a weekend in March

Replacing timbers on a railway bridge over the River Deben in Suffolk will close for East Suffolk line for the weekend of 6/7 March 2021.

The wheel timbers, which support the track across the bridge, need to be replaced before their deteriorating condition necessitates a speed restriction being imposed.

Ellie Burrows, Network Rail.

Six timbers in total (three pairs) will be replaced as part of the work, which cannot be carried out while services are running.

Ellie Burrows, Network Rail’s route director for Anglia, said: “Running a safe and reliable railway is my absolute priority, and this work is essential to prevent delays and cancellations on the East Suffolk line. I’d like to thank passengers for their patience while this work takes place.”

The work will affect services between Ipswich and Saxmundham stations and rail replacement bus services will be in operation all weekend.
